Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly planning to introduce fingerprint authentication feature for Android users.
Facebook-owned popular messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly planning to introduce fingerprint authentication feature for Android users.
Why It Matters?
By enabling fingerprint feature, the app will be completely protected. The app user will need to authenticate his identity in order to open WhatsApp.
The brand-new feature will protect the entire app.
According to WABetaInfo, this feature is in an alpha stage of development and it will be available in future for any Android user having Android Marshmallow (and newer) and a fingerprint sensor.
Reports on fingerprint authentication came after reports claimed it was also working on Touch ID and Face ID-based authentication for iOS.
In a situation where WhatsApp fails to detect the fingerprint, the user can still use phone credentials to get accessed.
The update will also reportedly include a preview feature for Audio files.
By February 2018, WhatsApp had a user base of over 1.5 billion, making it the most popular messaging application at the time.
WhatsApp has grown in multiple countries, including Brazil, India, and large parts of Europe, including the United Kingdom.
