According to Department of Atomic energy (DAE) chief KN Vyas, India will soon have twelve more nuclear plants.
Mr. Vyas at the 11th International Forum AtomExpo 2019 confirmed that the country will soon have 12 more nuclear plants.
Why India is planning to have more nuclear plants?
According to Mr. Vyas, the nuclear plants will improve the power situation in the country. The new plants will also ensure there is a free flow of uninterrupted power supply for both industries and residential use.
He was also quoted as saying, “nuclear technology is an irreplaceable source of clean, pollution-free energy.”
He further said, nuclear Technology is not only envisioned for producing power, but is also beneficial for doctors and scientists.
Nuclear power is the 5th largest source of electricity in India after coal, gas, hydroelectricity and Wind Power.
As of March 2018, India has 22 nuclear reactors in operation in 7 nuclear power plants, having a total installed capacity of 6,780 MW.
Nuclear power produced a total of 35 TWh and supplied 3.22% of Indian electricity in 2017.
