Mobile messaging service WhatsApp has reached the 1 billion users milestone with over 42 billion messages being exchanged daily, announced Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
When Facebook ECO acquired WhatsApp Inc. by paying a staggering $19 billion in February 2014, he expected that the messaging service will reach 1 billion users mark and he has been proved right. WhatsApp has more than doubled its user base since Facebook acquired it.
Facebook is still experimenting with how to make money from WhatsApp. The company has just started thinking about making money using the app. Zuckerberg gave hints about his plans for charging for calls. WhatsApp has long back dismissed the idea of making profits from advertising like other popular apps do.
