Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is currently focusing to thrive in Indian Market. The company is looking for opportunities to open smaller stores across India as part of its expansion strategy.
“IKEA will start online retail operations in India by March 2019,” IKEA’s India CEO Peter Betzel recently said in an interview with Bloomberg Quint.
“While we will add big stores in the country, we will also give the opportunity to smaller formats,” Betzel said.
“We are looking for opportunities in cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai,” he added.
IKEA recently laid the foundation stone for its third India store in Bengaluru, scheduled to launch for shoppers in year 2020.
The IKEA has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since 2008.
As of November 2017, the company owns and operates 415 stores in 49 countries. In fiscal year 2016, US$42.4 billion worth of goods were sold.
