An iOS and Android media app TikTok has been removed from Google Play Store as well as Apple App Store in India.
The decision has reportedly been taken after the government’s direction.
The move came after Supreme Court rejected TikTok’s owner’s plea to stay a Madras High Court order for a ban on the controversial app.
According to reports, the high court had observed that the app hosts inappropriate content and is “encouraging adult content”.
Owned by ByteDance, the app was launched as Douyin in China in September 2016 and introduced to the Overseas Market as TikTok one year later.
In 2018, the application gained popularity and became the most downloaded app in the U.S. in October 2018.
As of 2018, it is available in over 150 markets, and in 75 languages.
In July 2018, the app had more than 500 million users globally.
