More than 700,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar for Bangladesh since last August. Last week, I visited the Cox’s Bazar refugee camp in Bangladesh with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandii, and UN Population Fund Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem. We heard heart-breaking and appalling stories and saw people living in harsh conditions. But I was deeply inspired by the courage and dignity of the people who spoke with us. This video takes stock of what we saw and heard that day.
This crisis will not be solved overnight, but we cannot allow the situation to continue indefinitely. Bangladesh has shown great generosity in opening its borders, but the response must be a global one. Far more resources are needed immediately to avert disaster. We call on the international community to step up
