Tata Motors Ltd. has renamed its new hatchback ‘Zica’ car to ‘Tiago’, as the earlier name was coinciding with zica virus that is scaring the world.
Tata Motors said that it will now register the car’s new name and introduce it to the market by the end of March. Well ahead of the start of India’s Auto Expo, Tata Motors had announced its decision to drop Zica as the name. It then began a contest inviting the people to propose names for the new car.
The shortlist drawn up by the company also included Adore and Civet. The new name is selected from 40,000 entries Tata received in the global contest that ran for three days. Tata Motors offered a car to the winner of the contest.
Tata Motors hopes that the new car will revitalize its declining vehicle sales in India.
