media major Star India has now completely acquired the major Telugu broadcaster Maa Television Network. Star India, owned by 21st Century Fox, is a leading broadcaster in the country with over 40 channels in 8 different languages already.
Maa Television Network operates four channels: Maa, Maa Music, Maa Movies and Maa Gold. It may be recalled that in February this year, Star India had acquired three of the above four channels, except Maa TV.
Now, Maa Tv has also been acquired by Star thus MAA TV has now went out of the hands of its promoters Nimmagadda Prasad, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and others.
Telugu television market is the 2nd largest regional market in the country India in terms of revenue generation potential. After the integration, Star India will be able to offer enhanced content bouquet to Audience across the Southern markets.
“The acquisition fills a critical gap in our portfolio and will allow our advertisers targeted access to the large Telugu speaking Population. We plan to invest further in this important market to fundamentally change the content quality paradigm,” Star India CEO Uday Shankar said.
