It’s a shocking truth that 21% of Indian Beggars have passed Intermediate or 12th class. As per a recent survey, while there are 3.72 lakhs beggars in our country, around 75,000 are 12th Passed and over 3,000 have completed graduation or post-graduation.
Some of the beggars were interviewed to know the reason for choosing this as their livelihood and their answers were equally shocking. While some of them chose this path as they couldn’t get any employment, others opted for this livelihood as this method yields them more income compared to their previous, conventional jobs.
This portrays the alarming state of the jobless educated youth in India. This data is not at all encouraging and it might give confidence for other educated people to choose begging as it is hassle free, no taxes and moreover they can get all the sympathy in the world.
Although few NGOs have been trying to provide rehabilitation for beggars, time proved that it isn’t an easy task.
