Mission Day 9: NEEMO-22 – Today marks the final day of operations before the crew begins their 15 hour 45 minute decompression back to surface pressure, which will begin mid-day. This mission marks the third year in a row that scientists from the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES/XI) Division at JSC ARES has teamed with the laboratory of Integrative Marine Genomics and Symbiosis (IMaGeSLab) at FIU to to assess the photosynthetic capability of corals and their genetic connectivity between deep and shallow reef corals. Due to dive time limitations, it is challenging to study coral species in deep reefs via SCUBA.
