Amazon takes a decision to increase its hourly Minimum Wage to $15 for its United States employees, effective November 1, 2018.

American electronic commerce and cloud computing company Amazon has taken a decision to increase its hourly minimum wage to $15 for its United States employees, effective November 1, 2018.
According Amazon, this particular decision will benefit more than 350,000 workers, including part-time, temporary and seasonal employees.
Responding on the move, Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos said, “we listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do, and decided we want to lead.”
Key motives behind Amazon’s decision:
A pioneering move by Amazon comes after United States unemployment rate recorded at a near 20 year low as retailers and transporters compete for thousands of workforces for the holiday shopping season.
Major organisations such as United Parcel Service and Macy’s have announced that they are hiring employees to their stores to handle holiday sales and delivery services.
On September 4, 2018, Amazon touched US$1 trillion mark in value, emerging as the second publicly traded US company to do so after Apple.
