Indian Railway Catering and tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has become the biggest e-commerce portal in India beating the likes of Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. This rank is given after getting the data from the revenue filings of the E-commerce giants.
IRCTC clocked around 21 lakh daily hits and 3,000 enquiries per second at peak hours. Of the total tickets sold by Railway Department, 55% were booked via IRCTC portal.
For Fiscal Year 2014-15, IRCTC generated Rs 20,620 Crore revenue through tickets sale which is more than double to the revenue generated by Flipkart, around Rs. 9,350 crore, thus making it the biggest E-Commerce player in India.
After IRCTC added 5 new servers to get rid of hanging problem, a drastic change was observed. IRCTC also introduced the option of digital wallets for making payment.
IRCTC is currently available in Hindi and English and it is planning to make the website available in Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, and Urdu in near future.
