After hard fought performance, India defeated the World No.1 Proteas by 337 runs in the final Test at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium in New Delhi to win the four-match series 3-0. With this win, India climbed to the 2nd place in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings.
Chasing a mammoth target of 481, the visitors were bowled out for mere 143. Ajinkya Rahane is adjudged Man of the Match and Ravichandran Ashwin is declared Man of the Series for taking 31 scalps.
It is known that India won the first Test by 108 runs at Mohali and the 3rd test by 124 runs in Nagpur. The 2nd test at Bangalore was rained off.
India was holding the 4th position before the start of the series with 100 points.
The series result has helped India gain 10 points to reach 110, ahead of Australia and Pakistan. Hashim Amla’s side has retained the No.1 Test ranking despite the 0-3 loss. However, Proteas side has lost 16 points to come down to 114 from 130.
