ISRO is planning to launch 32 space missions in 2019.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to launch 32 space missions in 2019.
The ISRO chairman Kailasavadivoo Sivan recently said that the planned missions include Chandrayaan-2, the ₹800-crore mission to land on Moon with lander and rover.
The chairman also said in the New Year message to ISRO teams that India’s first human space mission in 2021-22, Gaganyaan, will also be pursued in 2019.
Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the basis of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme.
The spacecraft is being designed to carry three people, and a planned upgraded version will be equipped with rendezvous and docking capability.
Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled to launch in April 2019 and will attempt to soft land a lander and rover in a high plain between two craters, Manzinus C and Simpelius N, at a latitude of about 70° South.
If successful, Chandrayaan-2 will be the second mission to land a rover near the lunar south pole.
