The world’s very first self driving tram that tailored with multiple radar, lidar, and camera sensors has effectively been tested in Potsdam, Germany.
The brand-new concept, which relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms will be able to react to trackside indicators and respond to dangers like crossing pedestrians and vehicles.
According to a report in The Guardian, the vehicle was developed by a team of 50 computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and physicists at the German engineering company Siemens.
Nevertheless, the tram operated on a 3.7mile (6 kilometre) test route in real traffic with a safety driver for emergency purposes.
Siemens is the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe with branch offices abroad. The principal divisions of the company are Industry, energy, healthcare, and Infrastructure & Cities, which represent the main activities of the company.
