Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji ‘Maharaj’ International Airport on 30th of August.
“Congratulations to the people of Maharashtra, the long pending demand is now fulfilled,” said Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Civil Aviation.
The request was firstly made by BJP MP Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati, who is also the 13th descendant of the Maratha warrior king.
Along with Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, Delhi, it was adjudged the “World’s Best Airport” at Airport Service Quality Awards 2017 in the highest category of airports handling more than 40 million passengers annually by Airports Council International.
It has also won the “Best Airport in India and Central Asia” award at the Skytrax 2016 World Airport Awards.
It is one of the three airports in India to have implemented Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) to ensure timely takeoffs and landings.
