India on Tuesday stated that no artificial controversy should be made around religious leader Dalai Lama ‘s visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
“The Government has clearly stated on several occasions that Dalai Lama is a revered religious leader, who is deeply respected as such by the Indian people,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated.
“No additional colour should be ascribed to Dalai Lama ‘s religious and spiritual activities and visits to various states of India,” the statement said.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry had cautioned India that the visit of the Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh, which Beijing claims as part of Tibet, will cause “serious damage” to bilateral relations.
