The government of India spent about ₹1,856.82 crore on advertisements in newspapers and magazines in the last 3 years.
In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Information and broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the government of India spent about ₹1,856.82 crore on advertisements in newspapers and magazines in the last 3 years.
The money was spent by the Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) for communication related campaigns on behalf of different ministries as well as departments.
Approximately ₹579.88 crore was spent in 2015-16 and ₹628.04 crore in 2016-17.
Nearly Rs 648.82 crore was spent in 2017-2018.
The BOC acts as an advisory body for the Ministries on their media campaign. At the regional level, the media units are integrated into Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB) with an Additional Director General level officer as the Head of the Department for Regional Outreach Bureau.
