The Coca-Cola Company on 31st of August announced that it is acquiring UK’s popular coffee chain Costa Coffee from its parent company Whitbread for $5.1 billion.
Whitbread will be looking for shareholder consent for the deal, projected to take place by mid-October.
Whitbread purchased Costa for £19 million in 1995 when it had only 39 shops.
The Costa Coffee is the second largest coffeehouse chain in the world, and the largest in the UK.
Based on Interbrand’s “best global brand” study of 2015, Coca-Cola was the world’s third MOST VALUABLE brand, after Apple and Google.
In 2013, Coke products were sold in over 200 countries Worldwide, with consumers drinking more than 1.8 billion company beverage servings each day.
