#HappyBirthday, Mr Cassini! 🙂
On this day: 8 June 1625, Giovanni Domenico Cassini (or Jean Dominique) was born in Perinaldo near Imperia, Italy (at that time in the County of Nice under the control of the Republic of Genoa) Cassini was an Italian mathematician, astronomer, engineer and astrologer. He discovered four moons of Saturn and noted the division of the planet’s rings of Saturn (with the Cassini Division named after him). The NASA/ESA/ASI spaceprobe to Saturn launched in 1997 was named after him and became the fourth to visit Saturn and the first to orbit the planet.
