Singer Sonu Nigam has defended his performance mid-air after Jet Airways suspended 5 crew members for allowing him to perform over the in-flight announcement system.
The temporary suspension of the crew members came into effect after a video showing Sonu Nigam crooning to chartbuster Bollywood songs with other passengers joining him in a chartered flight mid-air from Jodhpur to Mumbai on January 4. Some of the passengers made videos and posted on Facebook which went viral.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation took this act seriously and asked the airlines to take strict action against the cabin crew for misusing the in-flight announcement system.
“This act lack of common sense according to me is real intolerance. To suspend crew members for asking me to sing on the address system, when the seat belt signs were off, and no announcements were to be made, is nothing less than punishing someone for spreading happiness,” said Nigam.
The crew’s suspension was trending on social media with Twitter users lashing out at the authorities.
