An FIR has been filed against the CEO and founder of e-commerce major Snapdeal for the online sale of Nestle’s instant Maggi noodles during the ban period.
Our readers are already aware of the ban imposed on Maggi Noodles between 7th June and 30th October last year after food Safety and Standards Authority of India found high levels of lead in the product. Despite the ban, Snapdeal allegedly sold Maggi noodles online and landed in trouble now. A Jaipur-based lawyer has now filed a complaint.
Following the complaint, police registered an FIR under 420, 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) sections of the IPC.
In June last year, the officials of Safety and Standards Authority of India banned Maggi noodles citing that the instant noodles contain high amount of lead. The company has 80% of India’s instant noodles market hence to not lose its market it destroyed 400 million Maggi packets and came back into market.
