Japan has expressed its interest to join consultations in a dispute issue filed by the EU in the WTO against ICT Import Duties of India.
According to reports, Japan has expressed its interest to join consultations in a dispute issue filed by the European Union (EU) in the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Information and Communication Technology (ICT) import duties of India.
The EU has alleged that despite India’s legally binding commitment with the WTO that it would not impose any Import Duty on ICT products, India has been imposing duties from 7.5% to 20%.
The EU has also alleged that the India’s practice on ICT import duties violates WTO norms as the country has committed zero percent bound tariffs.
Therefore, the EU is challenging the India’s import duties on ICT products.
Earlier, countries including Canada, Thailand, United States, Singapore and Chinese Taipei had joined the consultations against India.
Japan is the 6th nation which wants to join to deal with the issue.
