Fact Sheet: The World Bank Group’s Response to the Famine Crisis

Delegates are meeting next week at the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss famine response and prevention.
More than 20 million people in North-East Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen are facing famine or the risk of famine over the coming six months, according to the United Nations. Deteriorating conditions in parts of Kenya and Ethiopia are also of concern. An estimated 1.4 million children are at imminent risk of death from severe acute malnutrition.
