According to media reports, at least 40 CRPF jawans were martyred and several wounded in an IED blast in Awantipora area on Thursday (14th of Feb).
Reports say that an explosive-laden truck hit into CRPF convoy at Lethpora on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the suicide attack and recognised bomber as a homegrown militant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack calling the incident “despicable” and “dastardly”.
“Attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama in despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack. The sacrifices of our brave Security personnel shall not go in vain. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. May the injured recover quickly,” Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.
He also wrote, “Spoke to Home Minister Rajnath Singh Ji and other Top officials regarding the situation in the wake of the attack in Pulwama.”
