India’s third largest IT services firm, Wipro, was sued by a former employee, seeking compensation of around £1 million. 39 year old Shreya Ukil, who worked in the UK branch of Wipro, has filed a case at the central London employment tribunal.
She accused the company of harassment, unfair dismissal and sex discrimination. In her complaint, she alleged that she was manipulated into having an illegitimate affair with former VP and global BPO head Manoj Punja, who resigned last year.
She added that she was paid far less than her male colleagues and many other women too had left the firm due to similar experiences. She worked as sales and market development manager at the firm and further said that she was treated like a dirty good after ending the affair.
Ukil’s accusation has become a talking point in the IT arena and Wipro is using the help of top most lawyers to counter her.
