Since few years, few corporate companies like Reliance, EROS, Viacom, UTV, YRF etc have been acquiring the outright theatrical rights of the films of star heroes for fancy amounts and then they are selling the rights to local distributors with huge margins. In this process, they are earning more than the original makers.
It seems that Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan has taken the initiation to kill this trend with his latest move. SRK didn’t give the theatrical rights of his upcoming film ‘Dilwale’ to any corporate company. Instead, he sold the rights directly to local distributors for around Rs 130 Crore (Only Indian theatrical).
If he had sold the rights to any corporate company (a third party or a mediator) he wouldn’t have bagged even 70% of this money. This initiation will help producers to get additional earnings rather than losing the amount to third parties. This is indeed helpful for local distributors too.
However, in this process, he has angered the top Production houses for sure.
