Apple has confirmed that it plans to open a technology development centre in Hyderabad.
Apple has decided to increase its focus on the second most populous nation and utilize the soon to be set up development centre to bolster its mapping efforts in the third largest Smartphone market in the world.
In a statement Apple said, “We’ve been investing to expand our operations in India and are thrilled to have passionate customers and a vibrant developer community across the country.”
“We are looking forward to opening a new development office in Hyderabad that will be home to over 150 Apple employees supporting maps development. The office will also have space for many contractors who will support our ambitious efforts locally.”
The company announced that it has invested $25 million in this new facility. It is widely believed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Silicon Valley, where he met several top executives, may have played an instrumental role in Apple’s new interest towards India.
