Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has reportedly agreed to handover the hundreds of ancient sculptures and monuments of Amaravati that are currently in the possession of Tamil Nadu Government.
All of those sculptures and monuments, a symbol of the Buddhist era, were taken to Chennai by the British rulers when Chennai used to be their capital.
On 30th October, Amaravati Development Authority (ADA) Chairman Jasti Veeranjaneyulu had written a letter to Tamil Nadu CM seeking return of Amaravati sculptures that are in the National Museum at Chennai.
Responding to the letter, Tamil Nadu CM has given green signal to the transfer and it is said that the process will take place soon after completing all the formalities of signing official documents.
AP Government has plans to set up a museum in Amaravati consisting of ancient monuments that reflect Telugu culture. This is considered to be a major step to make Amaravati a major tourist attraction in the coming years.
