Congress Party vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Monday pointed out special category status is definitely the right of the people of Andhra Pradesh, and emphasized the Union Government to honour the promise brought in its predecessor UPA Government.
Talking to media in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi called the NDA Government’s approach to the matter as “very unfortunate.”
He was quoted saying special category status was not a favour done to the people of Andhra Pradesh State; it was a promise made to them in Parliament.
He conveyed his condolences over the death of Muni Koti, a party activist who died after immolating himself during the party’s meeting demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi assured his family members of all support and help from the congress party.
