A NASA-funded tool is helping connect two unlikely partners: American commerce and penguin conservation. Data and imagery from the NASA-USGS Landsat satellites and the MODIS instrument onboard our Aqua and Terra satellites are helping companies avoid impacts to penguin colonies along the icy waters of the Southern Ocean. In return, Antarctic stakeholders are able to support and expand their vital fishing and tourism businesses. Both people and penguins are doing their happy dance.
