India-born Sundar Pichai was named CEO of Search Engine giant Google on Tuesday (11th of August) by the company’s founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin in course of a re-structuring that created a mother company called Alphabet.
Google+ co-founder Larry Page declared a tremendous restructuring of the company, appointing Sundar Pichai as Chief executive officer and shifting himself and co-founder Sergey Brin to a larger holding company called Alphabet.
As CEO and President of Alphabet, Page and Brin will watch over Google together with associated companies such as the life-extension project Calico and a drone delivery venture called Wing.
Alphabet will furthermore direct Google’s early-stage funding operations, dubbed Capital and Ventures. Under the new organization, each of those operations are going to have its own CEO and leadership, while Pichai and Google retain control over search, ads, maps, the Google Play Store, YouTube, and Android.
The 43 year old Pichai, a Chennai native who went to IIT Kharagpur and afterwards to Stanford and Wharton, is the second person of Indian-origin to head the IT company after Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella, who grew to become the CEO of software giant Microsoft in February 2014.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sundar Pichai on being designated Google’s CEO.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and others also congratulated the new CEO.
