In East Asia and Pacific today, less than 12% of the Population are moderately or extremely poor. Nearly 2/3 are now economically secure or middle class, up 20% from 2002.
But rising inequality, automation, slower trade, urbanization, and an aging workforce threaten the prospects for broad-based growth. Almost a quarter of the population remains vulnerable to falling back into poverty.
