India created two world records on Sunday ( International Yoga Day ) with the Yoga mass session at Rajpath in New Delhi (led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi) – one for largest number of participants (35,985 people) and another for the most number of nationalities (84) at a single event.
An energetic yoga practitioner for a long time, Narendra Modi, drove the event early in the morning by joining the gigantic gathering in performing asanas.
The announcement was made at the United Nations headquarters at New York, where External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took an interest at the first International Yoga Day festivities at the UN.
Expressing gratitude toward the 192 member states who passed the resolution announcing June 21 as Yoga Day, she said ” the world can unite with yoga.”
The social occasion at the UN included Ban Ki-moon, secretary general of the United Nations, Sam Kutesa, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
“By announcing 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, the General Assembly has perceived the holistic benefits of this timeless practice and its inherent compatibility with the principles and values of the United Nations”, said UN chief.
Yoga offers a simple, accessible and comprehensive intends to advance physical and profound wellbeing and prosperity, the UN chief added.
