Jim Yong Kim’s thoughts on #China‘s health care costs and GDP growth:
China’s health care reform over the past decade has been truly remarkable. Health insurance coverage today is close to universal and out-of-pocket expenses for patients have come down by almost half, from 60 percent to 32 percent.
However, more needs to be done. With aging Population and rising demands, China is seeing its health care costs outpace its GDP growth by 5-10 percentage points.
Our joint study with China and World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that China move toward “people-centered” integrated health care that is focused on health outcomes, centers on primary care and offers better value for money. Implementing the report recommendations could save China as much as 3 percent of GDP by 2035. wrld.bg/QrfZ302AYaO
