Recognizing that there are numerous pressing challenges within the Middle East, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has stated, defeating the Islamic State terror group is Washington ‘s number one goal.
While addressing the 10th meeting of the 68-member Global Coalition against IS, Tillerson stated, the 68-member group is united in stopping the IS resurgence, halting its global ambitions, and discrediting its ideological narrative.
“And we are ready to grow stronger and stay aggressive in this battle,” Tillerson said.
“We will use our diplomatic presence on the ground to facilitate channels of dialogue between local leadership and Coalition partners,” he said
The US will increase our pressure on ISIS and al-Qaeda and will work to establish interim zones of stability, through ceasefires, to allow refugees to return home,” Tillerson added.
It was the first full meeting of the coalition since 2014.
