In January, a progressive surgery was performed by doctors at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Kochi,India where the nation’s first hand transplantation surgery carried out.
AIMS has led the surgery in January on a 30-year-old man, who had lost his hands in a train mishap.
The group, Dr Manu and his colleague Dr Vijay, has been extolled by the medical brotherhood Worldwide for their fruitful endeavor at this complex surgery.
Warren C Breidenbach, who completed the world’s first-hand transplant, flew down from the USA to meet the doctors.
Dr Breidenbach hailed their endeavors and expressed satisfaction over the hospital’s advanced methods.
“Hand transplantation is uncommon in India as donation of hand is yet to turned into a common practice here. Organ donation, including hand, has become common in Western countries. Our team has performed 86 surgeries in America and Europe alone,” he said.
