tech Giant Microsoft has acquired London-based popular keyboard app SwiftKey.
Neither Microsoft nor SwiftKey revealed the financial details of the deal, but as per a report, Microsoft has paid a whopping $250 million. All SwiftKey employees will join Microsoft as part of this agreement. Microsoft said that it will integrate SwiftKey’s Technology into the Windows’ Word Flow keyboard in the coming few months.
On the other hand, SwiftKey, which is used by 300 million people Worldwide, will continue to be available for Android and iOS users. SwiftKey app is currently not available on Microsoft’s mobile platform.
Since appointing Satya Nadella as the CEO in February 2014, Microsoft acquired a number of apps. The company, which used to largely focus on its own platform, is now purchasing interesting startup services.
“This acquisition is a great example of Microsoft’s commitment to bringing its software and services to all platforms. We’ll continue to develop SwiftKey’s market-leading keyboard apps for Android and iOS as well as explore scenarios for the integration of the core technology across the breadth of our product and services portfolio,” said the Executive Vice President, Technology and Research at Microsoft.
