The finale of the 2015 Miss World contest has come to an end with Miss Spain Mireia Lalaguna Royo claiming the coveted crown. The finale was held at Sanya, a coastal resort city in Hainan province of South China.
Miss Russia Sofia Nikitchuk finished the runner-up while Miss Indonesia Maria Harfanti was ranked the third. The three winners battled it out with Miss Jamaica and Miss Lebanon as the final five contenders after the remaining women lost out in earlier rounds.
Mireia, a 23-year-old medical student hails from Barcelona. A professional pianist Mireia, obtained the crown after defeating 113 other contestants from around the world. She was crowned by last year’s winner Rolene Strauss of South Africa.
The Miss World pageant was started in Britain in 1951 and it is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant. This year was the 65th Miss World contest. This year became controversial as Miss Canada was banned by China for speaking up on the issue of human rights abuses. She was quietly removed from the Miss World contestants list and was not even mentioned in the show.
