Uttar Pradesh is considered to be one of the states of India, in which unemployment is at an all time high. The shocking testimony of the state of unemployment in UP is that when the Uttar Pradesh secretariat recently called for applications for peon posts, 255 PhD scholars have applied.
The total number of applicants received for 368 posts is a staggering 23 lakhs. Surprisingly, apart from 255 PhD scholars, almost 1.5 lakh graduates, 25000 post graduates and 11.2 lakh applicants with higher education have applied for the job where as the minimum eligibility for the peon’s job is a person with Class 5 education and the knowledge of riding a bicycle.
Following this unprecedented response, the UP government has decided to filter the applicants through written tests and interviews.
Already, the state has been witnessing political turmoil, with opposition parties criticizing the ruling Samajwadi Party government for failing to fulfill the promise of creating employment to the millions of unemployed youth.
