The European Union has warned that United States President Donald J. Trump‘s refusal of a United Nations treaty intended to regulate the global arms trade would hamper the global fight against illicit weapons trafficking.
The European Union (EU) expressed its disappointment towards United States President Donald Trump for rejecting to join the Arms Trade Treaty.
The European Union has warned that United States President Donald J. Trump’s refusal of a United Nations (UN) treaty intended to regulate the global arms trade would hamper the global fight against illicit weapons trafficking.
According to EU’s chief diplomat, Federica Mogherini, United States’ decision to revoke its signature would not contribute to ongoing efforts to encourage transparency in the international arms trade.
Mogherini also said, the European Union will continue to call on all states, and specifically the main arms exporters and importers, to join the Arms Trade Treaty without delay.
US President Trump on Friday (26th of April) said, the United States would not stand by the 2013 treaty designed to regulate the global arms trade.
Mr. Trump further called it “misguided and encroachment on United States sovereignty.
