On March 3, Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir witnessed the 56-hour encounter in which two militants, five Security personnel, including a CRPF officer, and a civilian were killed.
According to a police spokesperson, the operation at Babagund area of Kupwara district took time as it posed considerable difficulties to the security forces due to the topography of the region.
One of the spokesperson said that two CRPF Personnel, Inspector Pintu Kumar Singh and Constable Vinod, and two policemen, Selection Grade Constables Naseer Ahmad and Ghulam Mustafa Barah were killed in the gunfight on March 1.

According to a policeman, two militants were killed by security forces in the encounter which began on March 1 in Srinagar. He further added that bodies of both the militants were recovered from the encounter site and their identities and affiliations are being ascertained.
The spokesman said that a CRPF jawan, identified as Sham Narayan Singh Yadav was injured in the exchange of fire on March 1 and succumbed to injuries on March 3. The number of fatalities of security personnel reaches to five on March 3.
