According to the Union finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the Union Cabinet gave its approval to bring back the triple talaq ordinance that makes the practice of talaq-e-biddat or instant triple talaq by Muslim men a criminal offense with a jail term.
After the lapsing of Bill and failing its passage in the Rajya Sabha, the government adopted the ordinance route. In less than a year, the triple talaq ordinance will become law for the third time, once President Ram Nath Kovind signs it.
The Cabinet also approved an ordinance to bring out the loopholes in the corporate governance framework and improve the ease of doing business. The government failed to amend the Companies Act in the budget session that sought to re-categorize 16 minor offenses as purely civil defaults. The action is seen as an attempt to cut down litigations for a minor infringement of the Companies Act and limitlessly enhance the ease of working together for corporates.
