The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, will be tabled in Rajya Sabha today, amid massive uproar in the Northeastern states.
The Lok Sabha cleared it on January 8, and if it gets clearance in Rajya Sabha, it becomes a law.
The bill attempts to give Indian citizenship to Hindus, Parsis, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and Jains from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, who fled their native states to save them, entered India before December 31, 2014.

This has sparked massive protest in the north-east and BJP has been losing supporters in the process. The protesters say that the bill goes against the Assam Accord of 1985. They say that no infiltrator, irrespective of their religion, should be given citizenship rights.
