17th International Seminar on “Counter-IED strategy”, organised …

The two-day 17th International Seminar on “Counter- Improvised Explosive Device (IED) strategy”, organized by the National Security Guard (NSG), concluded here today. Thirty-three International delegates from 12 countries and 225 delegates from various states of India participated in the seminar. The theme of the seminar was “synergizing the National and International special forces to meet challenges of terrorism and IED”.

Minister of State for Information and broadcasting, Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, graced the occasion as Chief Guest at NSG Campus, Manesar, Haryana yesterday. Before his keynote address and release of NSG Bombshell Magazine, the Minister inaugurated the “Niranjan Auditorium”, constructed by NSG as a tribute and as a mark of respect to Lt. Col. Niranjan, E. K., who was martyred during Pathankot operation in Jan, 2016. Shaheed Lt Col Niranjan’s parents were also present on this occasion.

After the inauguration, the deliberations for the day commenced focusing on various aspects of dealing with IEDs with various experts from within the country as well as from Australia, UK, USA, Japan, Russia and Israel throwing light on various facets of the issue.

A CT Expo:2017 was also organized at NSG Campus Manesar to enable the industries to showcase their latest equipment in the field of counter terrorism. Besides, demonstrations on IED, simulation of IED blasts and futuristic IEDs were also organized.

On the second day today, Director General, NSG, Shri Sudhir Pratap Singh welcomed the Chief Guest, Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri M J Akbar and the delegates at Manekshaw Auditorium, New Delhi. In his keynote address, Shri M J Akbar stressed the importance of tackling terrorism as a prerequisite for wider developmental perspective.

Various eminent speakers such as Shri G K Pillai, former Union Home Secretary, Shri Loknath Behera, DGP Kerala, Shri Pradeep Kapur, Central Director, CIRA, National technical Research Organisation (NTRO), Dr P Kumaraguru and Col. Sebastien Forja, France threw light on various aspects of social media and use of cyber space with reference to the trends and developing threats of terrorism.

In afternoon session, Shri K C Verma, Ex Secretary R&AW, Lt Gen P C Katoch (Retd), Maj Gen B K Sharma (Retd), Lt Gen H S Lidder (Retd) and Col Simon Urry, U K threw light on various aspects of capacity building and International Cooperation. The valedictory address was delivered by Shri Rajiv Jain, Director, Intelligence Bureau, who focused on strategy to counter radicalization and terrorism. The two-day Seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Lt Gen G C Katoch (Retd), Director, CATS.
